Margaret MacMillan lecture

We got there quite early but the main lecture room was full so we were in a spill over room.  I guess there must have been over 500 people there altogether.  She was excellent.  I know she's pretty famous but all these people on a Saturday night?  These are free lectures by the Vancouver Institute and they are always on a Sat.  night at 8:15pm.  Quite an interesting roster.  Also interesting that Herbert Rosengarten,  a old UBC prof of ours,  gave the introduction.  He seems quite active as I noticed he gave a lecture recently to the Jane Austen Society just before I joined.

This was the overflow lecture theatre...people just kept streaming in and not everyone got a seat.

This is a little light that was part of Jim's birthday present from Elaine this year.  It is very thin and about 2" x 3" and it gives off an amazing light.  Walking around here at night it is a bit dark in spots so this is a lifesaver.
