This is Westbrook Village which is actually further than we thought....about a 20 min. walk or a short drive. But we didn't really like the feel of it anyway and the pub the "Biercraft" wasn't our scene at all. Almost all these high bar stools.
There is quite a lot of free parking including 2 hrs. free parking at Save-On. I just might do some shopping there since Linda feels it's pretty good but Stong's is very close. I think my car may be self-driving to Stong's...
There is a pretty wonderful looking community centre here and lots of programs. I think we'll enjoy our Brock House more, though, and it's just a few minutes more drive.
Now, the greatest find was our new "local" Mahoney and Sons. It's a five minute walk and the food and ambiance are absolutely fabulous. We sat outside today in the sun in their large deck area but we could have got shade. We had the appetizer platter with all sorts of things...all wonderful and seriously the best calamari I have ever had...no kidding! We had pints of Kilkenny to wash it down.
Now, things have changed just a little since we were students at UBC. One of the main eateries was what was referred to as "The Armpit"...sort of says it all. On the menu at our new local they have a big selection of single malt Irish and Scotch whiskies and a French champagne "Veuve Cliquot" for $105. It think we'll have to order that as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations next year!
The interior of this pub/restaurant is amazing...books and bookshelves...can you believe it! It's going to be very cosy in the winter and you can make reservations.
They have lots of cool memorabilia. When I had my short smoking career, it was always "Players".
Now, this is a particularly cosy table by the fireplace. I hope we can book this!
So, our walk back to our new place.
That's our apartment building on the right.
Our place is the top right. There are four penthouse suites on the top floor.
The entrance.
This is the condo development across from us...very nice low rise mainly family oriented I would think.
This lovely little park is across from us as well.
