We have been looking for a larger place and preferably a penthouse since we have been bothered by our upstairs neighbours (they seem to do a lot of noisy food prep). We opened up other areas of the city as we couldn't really find anything in the West End that was also in such a quiet area like Lost Lagoon. We got the idea of looking at UBC because it really is like a city now and found this 2 bedroom and den penthouse with 1255 sq. feet and all newly renovated. It's really bright and spacious
It’s facing west so we’ll get some sun…big private balcony. It’s a corner suite. Two elevators of course and a pool, hot tub, sauna and you can use the adjoining building’s gym. Lot’s of visitor parking. It’s so amazingly residential as the streets are large and cars aren't allowed to park on the streets so you don't get that congested feeling.
Within minutes you are walking in the residential part of the endowment lands which is like walking in Uplands just like our home on Dewdney. The University Golf Club is a 5 minute drive so that will be our new “local”. We will have to drive to Spanish Banks to swim in the ocean so an 8 minute drive as opposed to an 8 minute walk. We are very close to Brock House which has lots of great programs for Seniors and is right on the ocean. Jim is in heaven being able to walk to his university libraries. It’s a regular rental so you can’t get booted out and is under rent controls. We’re really impressed with the management. They are interested in getting good tenants so no problem giving our notice end of this month and paying rent at the new place beginning Oct 1 and since it’s vacant we can move in before. We’ll just be throwing money at it and getting movers to do everything.
In the next block there is a centre with a medical and dental clinic and lots of food outlets (the smells coming-out of the Indian place were amazing) and even a Staples.

We will miss our "beach friends" and The Sylvia but we'll come down especially in the summer months as you can park for free at The Sylvia. It has been a wonderful 6 years in an area we always wanted to retire to but we're really excited about our new adventure.
It's an 8 minute drive to Stong's (great grocery store) so Carol, we'll probably be bumping into each other there!
Fifty years ago we were walking along West Mall at UBC in opposite directions and quite far apart. It was between classes so there were lots of people. I knew who Jim was at school but we had never talked to each other. I asked myself if I should "nod" to him since I recognized who he was. I did. Next thing I know he's changed direction and is walking beside me. Then we went for coffee....well, you know the rest!
You can get an idea of the facilities and area from the website.

Views from the balcony. It was cloudy when I took these photos but apparently you can see Vancouver Island on a clear day as well as the North Shore mountains.
They don't have any photos on their website of the interior so I took these photos yesterday when we were measuring and figuring out furniture placement. Master bedroom and I love that all the bedrooms have these middle windows with screens.
The dining area is much larger so our guests won't be so squeezed in.
View from the dining area.
I love the kitchen...all new stainless steel appliances and lots of cupboards and counter space...almost twice as large as our current kitchen.
I'm going to really enjoy having in-suite laundry.
