Joyce Carol Oates

I haven't read Oates for a while but put a hold on this as soon as I read this review.

From a book review by Ron Charles:

"Fortunately, there is an alternative to Twitter, Facebook, and all those indignet op-eds that we use to confirm the superiority of our beliefs. It's a flexible, tool-free, hacker-resistant platform on which complex social and moral questions can be carefully explored. It simultaneously engages our empathy and models the action of empathy for us.

It's called the novel. And Oates has written one that will stretch the affections of readers who know that abortion is murder and readers who know that access to abortion is fundamental to women's freedom.

How Oates can do this so effectively is part of the thrilling mystery of a good book."

Yes, indeed, the novel.

And Lousie Penny posted this on FB today....Looking forward to November!

"As you know, KINGDOM OF THE BLIND is coming out on November 27th. Now, at last, we have a cover. I love so much about it, including that the designer uses light to talk about darkness. Please share the image. It is always so moving for me to see the face of the latest book. Something that will have a place in our bookcases for years to come. "
