Itty Bittly Book Review: "People of the Book"

"People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks

Well, you had me at "book" and then to know this was a story mainly fictional but also based on some real events about a priceless book being saved a number of times it was pretty much a must read for me. I enjoyed it very much and couldn't put it down towards the end.

This was one of my Christmas books from Jim that he scrounged at some library book sale or nook. I had read "March" by her for my Brock House Bookclub and enjoyed it and this was a brand new copy signed by the author and also given to someone from their real estate agent. I guess they didn't read it.

The real life history of this precious book is pretty interesting.

The Sarajevo Haggadah is an illuminated manuscript that contains the illustrated traditional text of the Passover Haggadah which accompanies the Passover Seder. It is one of the oldest SephardicHaggadahs in the world, originating in Barcelona around 1350. The Haggadah is owned by the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo. Its monetary value is undetermined, but a museum in Spain required that it be insured for $7 million before it could be transported to an exhibition there in 1992.[1]
