One of Palm Springs’ most historic sites is offering a bridge to its celebrity past.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort, which became a culturally mixed haven for the rich and famous as Canyon Country Club in the early 1960s, will open its distinctive Donald Wexler-designed clubhouse to the public starting Nov. 6.
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians will reopen the North Course clubhouse for light food and libations after it had been closed for several years. It will be open five days a week through April to one and all. No social memberships required.
The tribe credits local residents in the Indian Canyons Neighborhood Organization with making this big part of Palm Springs history accessible again.
"This isn't the tribe creating this event center," said Agua Caliente Economic Development Director Todd Hooks. "Very simply, ICNO approached the golf managers about paying a fee to get access to the clubhouse and having a server there for food and drinks."
A very cool "sprung" dance floor
I love the orange...so mid-century.
