Bistro Pastis

We took Richard and Grace here last night for dinner.   We were impressed with the food and really liked  the owners who are French.  They have managed to source their bread from a place in Coquitlam and it is like the real bread of Carqueiranne...wow!   It was a Travelzoo offer so we each had an appetizer,  main course,  and split two desserts.  And for all 10 items we ordered different things and tasted from all plates.  These are the kind of dining companions I like!

(Oh,  and Richard ran in the Scotiabank run so I guess it couldn't have been all that bad....)

Apples:  Ris de Veau for me (well,  you can't beat Le Crocodile for this dish but a different lighter take),  white asparagus for Grace,  frog legs for Richard,  and boudin rouge (blood sausage) for Jim.

Mains:  duck a l'orange for me,  rib steak for Jim,  halibut for Richard,  scallops for Grace.

Dessert:  trio of sorbets and a special crepe

The asparagus with a very yummy sauce.

My duck...perfectly done.

Richard's halibut...and even came with clams in the shell.  They are from Brittany and  when we were in Concarneau I had an amazing white fish that was served with tiny little clams in the shells so perhaps a specialty of the region done like this.
