"The Riders" by Tim Winton
He is one fabulous writer. Scully, the main character, is unforgettable and the novel is quite a mystery really as he keeps you on edge to see what happens and yet the ending really couldn't be any other way.
This novel was nominated for the 1994 Booker Prize but lost out to "How Late It Was, How Late" by James Kelman. I've never heard of the novel or the author but it might be worth a read to see how it measures up to Winton's amazing novel.
Think I'll just have to read everything he's written.
