News items from the US

The Desert Sun certainly has their act together and we started getting our newspaper the day after we called. Even a better set up for payment etc.

Big news is the repealing of the gay "Don't ask, don't tell" but of course the military is going to take a year to review the proposal and the GOP, lead by John McCain, charges that "Congress is being usurped". Slow progress.

It seems the US Supreme Court has stopped broadcasts of California's same-sex marriage trial, but the proceedings are now being re-enacted for the Internet. Two Los Angeles-based filmmakers have used transcripts, bloggers in the courtroom and professional actors to help re-create the trial. The first of 12 episodes- each covering a day of the trial- appeared on YouTube on Monday.

I was quite intrigued by the ingenuity of this idea and I'm sure there could be many applications for creative filmmakers.

Of course we know that gangs would be using Twitter and Facebook but seems like the cops are actually getting useful information for prosecutions too.

Looking at my lovely mountains as I post this...will try to get a cable today. Off for a swim soon.
