A wonderful Mother's Day

Well, I didn't get to see my wonderful son but he sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers and Roger's chocolates. Thank you so much, Richard. I've had a couple of the chocolates already. I don't think they will last long. Yum.

Itty Bitty Book Review: "Motherkind"

I almost stopped reading this more than once because it did seem rather sad. But it kept my interest and it was really quite good. "Motherkind" by Jayne Anne Phillips Jayne Anne Phillips tells the story of Kate, whose care for her terminally ill mother coincides with the birth of her first child and the early months of a young marriage. She must, in a single year, come to terms with radiant beginnings and profound loss.

Itty Bitty Book Review

"Sointula" by Bill Gaston Here is a summary of the novel...not my own words. I seem to be getting very lazy. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I kept reading it so it did keep my interest. I think I'm ready for something light and amusing "At the heart of Sointula is Evelyn, a middle-aged woman who abandons her privileged existence. She throws away the trappings of her civilized life—her antidepressants and her air ticket home, her wallet and most of the clothes off her back—steals a kayak, and embarks on a quest that takes her deep into the wilderness. The goal: to find Tom—her strange, damaged son—in the remote village of Sointula. Equal parts light and dark, compassion and irony, this is Gaston’s most mature work."

Five million lego pieces

How cool is that? From BBC News: A museum featuring more than five million Lego pieces has been opened by a collector. Jason Joiner, 55, who has been collecting the plastic bricks since he was seven, is the curator of Brickz in Milton Keynes. In recent years he has travelled around the world to find rare sets to display in his museum. He said: "There's nowhere in Britain you can actually see all the Lego kits we had as kids." "I'm regaining my childhood and I wanted to share it."

Passports

We renewed our passports today. It ended up being less hassle and took less time than we thought it might. Always glad to get stuff like that done. Not sure if or where we'll go travelling but we're good to go now.
