Whole Foods in Austin

I discovered the Whole Foods Store in Austin the other day...wow! I believe this is where they got their start and their store here is their largest.

These photos just show a sampling of these departments as they are all quite vast...incredible selection of wines and beers of course too. I had a wonderful time sampling at the smokehouse seafood. And a good thing too as things that seemed interesting like smoked scallops and smoked halibut were rather chewy and not too flavourful but the smoked sablefish was wonderful as well as the chili lime salmon among other things. Didn't care much for the texture of the salmon jerky.

Then on to the nut roaster department where they have about 30 different types of freshly roasted nuts and eight nut butters that you can mix yourself.

The cheeses were amazing too. I bought some mountain cheese from Savoie (Monique's region of France) and some Oregon blue cheese called Rogue River Blue and touted as the probably the best blue cheese in the world. I think Jim and I would concur.

They have loads of prepared foods like soups, bar-b-q, asian...we had some wonderful shrimp and crab gumbo. They even have a breakfast bar!
